One of the Jets’ more intriguing undrafted rookie free agents in 2026 might be BYU cornerback Mory Bamba.
At 6-2, 193 pounds with 4.29 speed, he has the kind of length and aggressiveness at the line that Aaron Glenn likes in his outside press corners.
It was quite a long journey to Florham Park for the Wisconsin native.
First, he went to Wisconsin-Oshkosh to run track, competing in the 110 hurdles and the triple jump. Then he decided to try to make it in football and had a couple of JUCO stops on the gridiron at ASA College in Miami and Tyler Junior College in Texas, which helped him land a scholarship to BYU.
While he only made eight starts at BYU in four years, he knocked his Pro Day out of the park with a 36½-inch vertical jump along with the aforementioned 4.29 forty.
A latecomer to football, the Jets hope they can mold this fast, twitchy athlete into an NFL cornerback.
While he hones his cornerback skills, he will need to flash on special teams to buy time, and with his size, speed, short-area quickness, and strength, he could end up being quite good in this area.
Bamba, whose mother is from Ivory Coast, speaks three languages – English, French, and Madinka (West African language).
While he needs a lot of work to improve his cornerback technique and instincts, he’s got something you can’t teach: a rare size-speed ratio at the cornerback position.
It will be interesting to see if Aaron Glenn and the Jets’ secondary coaches can mold this player into a contributor on the NFL level.
