Like many prospects from the last couple of college classes, Jets rookie safety Dean Clark comes in with a lot of experience and degrees.
Due to extra years of eligibility granted due to COVID, Clark arrived in Florham Park after six years of college football, four at Kent State and two at Fresno State.
After standing out at Kent State, he put together two terrific seasons out west, including two double digit tackle games last year for the Bulldogs – a career-high 11 tackles at New Mexico (Sept. 21) and 10 tackles at UCLA (Nov. 30). A prolific tackler, he had 116 tackles at Kent State in 2021.
He also has a few diplomas, earning his undergraduate degree in business administration from Kent State and an MBA at Fresno State.
So this is a very mature, bright rookie, who shouldn’t take long to pick up the Jets’ defensive playbook.
From the great football town of Massillon, Ohio, Clark is a big-time hitter and very instinctive.
He just has to prove he can hold up in coverage against NFL targets, much more challenging than those in the MAC and Mountain West.
But with his smarts, 4.51 speed, and 41-inch vertical, he very well could prove he has the athleticism to hold up transitioning to a much higher level of competition.
