This was kind of interesting move by a Jets AFC East rival . . .

Interesting turn of events from over a week ago that didn’t get much attention.

On August 30, the Jets waived QB Brady Cook.

On August 31, the Miami Dolphins claimed Cook.

This might seem strange to some.

The Jets cut him in favor of a rookie draft pick, Cade Klubnik, but the Dolphins valued him so much they claimed him and have him on the regular roster.

“Brady’s the ultimate competitor,” said Dolphins GM Jon Eric-Sullivan. “Tough as nails, got a lot of swag, if you will. Guys follow him. You watch what he did at Missouri and his time there he elevated a program that maybe at the time wasn’t the most talented, they played well and I think a lot of that had to do with him. And again, I think it upgraded our room.”

So Sullivan thinks Cook “upgraded” their room, and the Jets had him as their fourth QB this summer.

As former Alabama football coach Nick Saban liked to say, “Everyone looks at the world through a different set of eyes.”

Cook struggled as the Jets’ starter over the last month of the 2025-26 season, going 0-4. But Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward, who the Jets face on Sunday, also struggled. Rookie QBs struggle, especially on bad teams. It happens.

Cook had one of the nicer TD throws this summer for the Jets in the preseason: a 31-yard strike to Quinton Skinner at Pittsburgh.

But clearly the Jets brass doesn’t think he’s as good as Klubnik.

Time will tell who was right.
