A heaping helping of Thursday Whispers . . .
Not sure what is going on, but Jets’ right tackle Morgan Moses was talking to a trainer and then headed inside for a bit during the part of practice the media can watch.
Not sure what is wrong. He does wear a compression sleeve on his right leg.
He did eventually come back out. His history is that he always plays hurt. The previous six years, all with Washington, he started all 16 games, and he was banged up a lot over this stretch.
So it would take something major to keep him out.
If he can’t go, Chuma Edoga would probably start at right tackle, but don’t expect Moses to miss the game – he never does . . .
Speaking of the Jets’ offensive tackle position, with so many teams in need of tackles, you wonder if they might be a seller at the trade deadline (November 2). Back-up swing tackle Conor McDermott (knee) seems close to returning, as is Mekhi Becton (knee) and obviously, they have two solid starters in Moses and George Fant, and Edoga, who was highly rated coming out of USC.
You would have to think a team in need of an offensive tackle will call the Jets . . .
Shaq Lawson is a good guy and has a great motor, but it’s becoming a little clearer why he’s on his fourth team in five-plus NFL seasons. He gives you everything he’s got, but the instincts are so-so and he just doesn’t make enough plays . . .
Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley (hamstring) was running sprints on the rehab field, but that really doesn’t mean much about his availability on Sunday. Because with hamstrings the issue isn’t running straight, but cutting . . .
Jets DC Jeff Ulbrich was asked about the Mosley injury, and said, “We’re fortunate that we have some depth at the position.”
Having players on the depth chart at the position doesn’t mean you have depth.
Jamien Sherwood has a lot of potential, but is new to the linebacker position and has a lot to work on.
So I’m not sure “depth” is the right word for the Jets at linebacker right now . . .
The Jets had a lot of success in the first Jets-Patriots game attacking the Patriots’ right tackles, where they were platooning Yasir Durant and Justin Herron. Those guys played against the Jets because Trent Brown was out, and he’s still out, and recently landed on IR.
In the second quarter, John Franklin-Myers beat right tackle Durant with an inside move and strip-sacked Mac Jones and Durant recovered. The play lost 11 yards. Two plays later, Sheldon Rankins beat Durant for a sack to end the series.
