On November 6, the New York Jets were blown out, at home, by the Los Angeles Chargers.
In that game, the Jets failed to get into the end zone, settling for two Greg Zuerlein field goals.
The Chargers defense, which their head coach Brandon Staley runs, is the same scheme as the Miami Dolphins.
Staley is a disciple of Dolphins defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
So since the Jets offense and their QB had some issues against the playbook on November 6, it might cause them some issues this Sunday.
Fangio likes to disguise a lot of coverages, which can be challenging for young quarterbacks . . .
In retrospect, it’s surprising that not only did the Jets lose to the Chargers at home, but got blown out.
The Chargers aren’t a very good team and now stand at 5-8 . . .
The Jets certainly have a chance to win at Miami Sunday, when you consider the fact that the Dolphins just lost to the Tennessee Titans, in Miami. The Titans, like the Jets, are 5-8.
And the Jets have the better defensive line, with Titans star defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons out with an injury. The Titans beat the Dolphins, without Simmons, which makes their win even more impressive.
Miami has a lot of offensive line injuries, including to starting center Connor Williams, who they just put on injured reserve with an ACL tear. The man scheduled to take his place, Liam Eichenberg is iffy for the Jets game with a calf injury, as is guard Robert Hunt (hamstring).
Left tackle Terron Armstead, who is always on the injury report going back to his days in New Orleans, is dealing with some stuff as well.
So the Jets’ talented defensive line could have a big day in Miami Gardens on Sunday, and when you get to Tua Tagovailoa, and hit him a lot, he tends to serve up some interceptions, as we saw in the Jets-Dolphins game on Black Friday . . .
According to the Deseret News, Zach Wilson’s hometown newspaper in Utah, the team told the QB he’ll be traded during the offseason.
According to the paper, Wilson and Saleh agreed to part ways after the QB was benched last month.
Saleh did not deny the story.
“My conversations with [Wilson] are to do everything he can to get ready to play a football game,” Saleh said on Monday. “As far as all that other stuff is concerned, those are things I will leave for Joe [Douglas].”
Saleh often says we need to talk to Douglas about personnel moves, both often when he says it, the GM isn’t available to the media. The GM only speaks a few times a year, and just one time in-season, at the bye-week.
Trading him seems to be the way to go. It makes a ton of sense.
But if they intend on trading him, they might not want to start him in all the remaining games, in case he gets hurt.
And honestly, if you want to get back the maximum value, now would probably be the best time to pull the plug. Right now, fter that second half against Houston.
We know they aren’t going to do that, but that probably would be an ideal time, though there is another game in a couple of weeks that could be a good showcase game, and that is against the Washington Commanders, a team with a suspect defense. The new owner traded away both their star defensive ends at the trade deadline.
Games after that against Cleveland and New England might not be good trade showcase games. Both teams have defenses playing very well right now, with complex schemes.
