Ton of pass interference penalties today, and there is reason for it . . .

Cortland – In Jets practice today, there were real NFL officials on hand, and flags were flying like crazy for pass interference.

This should come as no surprise.

Former NFL VP of Officiating, Mike Pereira, now with Fox Sports, warned us this was coming a few weeks ago, after attending an NFL officiating clinic.

“Interesting day at NFL officiating clinic,” tweeted Pereira. “Biggest point of emphasis for 2014, illegal contact and defensive holding. More offense! Last time the NFL had this as a major emphasis was 2004 and the number of illegal contact fouls went from 79 to 191. NFL says they are offsetting this emphasis with an emphasis on calling offensive pass interference. Not an even trade in my opinion.”
