Perhaps The Athletic did the Jets a small favor with their latest expose on the team’s football operation.
As Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis once famously said, “Sunlight is the best disinfectant.”
Clearly some things need to change at 1 Jets Drive for the Jets to break their dubious 14-year playoff drought.
The latest Athletic blockbuster had myriad nuggets that didn’t paint the most ideal picture of the Jets’ football decision-making process.
Choose to believe what you want from the story, but perhaps it could be a turning point for the Jets, a wake-up call.
They need to hire a big-time head coach like the Broncos did with Sean Payton and the Chargers with Jim Harbaugh, write him a big check and let him do his thing. This isn’t the time for a hot-shot coordinator with no head coaching experience who buries his face in his play sheet.
They need to hire a great football man, an alpha dog leader, and let him do his thing, lead them out of the desert, sans meddling.
Clearly Mike Vrabel should be a top target.
As Albert Einstein once said: “In the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity.”
So maybe this story, and the uneasiness it caused in Jets Nation, will be the impetus for the Jets’ brass to make a tour-de-force move to finally turn things around in Florham Park.
