Two nice plays in a row from this Jets Day 3 draft pick . . .

Florham Park – In the fifth round of the 2025 draft, the Jets used pick 176 to grab Miami defensive end Tyler Baron.

And they had to be happy with what they saw from the kid on back-to-back plays in Thursday’s training camp practice – one as a pass rusher, one as a run defender.

First, he beat a tackle off the edge, and he got to QB Tyrod Taylor, pressuring him to abandon the pocket, and throw a pick to Baron’s college teammate in Coral Gables, linebacker Kiko Mauigoa.

Then, on the next play, he shot into the backfield and blew up a run by Kene Nwangwu.

Baron, a Knoxville-native, who spent his first four college seasons playing for his hometown Tennessee Volunteers, before transferring to “The U” for his final college campaign, certainly looks the part at 6-5, 258 pounds with 4.6 speed.

Before the draft, NFL.com draft guru Lance Zierlein wrote about the defensive end – “Baron projects as a middle-round edge prospect whose ceiling could be tied to his ability to become a more consistently disruptive force.”

Well he was a “disruptive force” on these two plays.

If he can do this stuff on a more consistent basis, he could turn into a nice late-round value for Gang Green.
