Florham Park – The Jets scored two rushing touchdowns in their win over the Tennessee Titans last Sunday.
The initial one came in the first quarter on an end around to tight end Kenyon Sadiq, who took it in from three yards out.
The second came in the third quarter on a four-yard scamper by running back Breece Hall.
One common denominator on each play was tight end Jeremy Ruckert, from Lindenhurst, Long Island, the heart of Jets country, throwing a key block.
On the Sadiq run, Ruckert took out linebacker James Williams to help create a clear path off the left edge (TE Mason Taylor also had a nice block on safety Kevin Winston).
On the Hall score, Ruckert had a great block on Winston on the second level.
Ruckert has turned into a high-level NFL blocking tight end.
“He’s a true ‘Y’ tight end, meaning he’s a guy that can get in-line and move people off the ball,” Jets coach Aaron Glenn said about Ruckert last year. “He’s shown that in practice. To be able to have a six-technique standing in front of you, a man that’s 280 pounds, and be able to block that man, it’s hard to do for a tight end, and he’s been doing a pretty good job of that.”
