On Tuesday, the Jets interviewed Buffalo Bills assistant GM Brian Gaine for their vacant GM position.
Gaine has been working in the NFL player personnel world since 1999, including gigs with the Jets, Dallas, Miami and Houston, before landing in Buffalo in 2017.
He is a Bill Parcells’ disciple, having worked for “The Big Tuna” with the Jets, Dallas and Miami.
The son of Irish immigrants, and from a family full of firefighters and police officers, the Pearl River, New York native and Don Bosco High School graduate, is highly regarded around the league for his evaluation skills, and has a lot to do with the Bills’ strong roster, having worked as GM Brandon Beane’s right-hand man since 2019.
Some would argue he already showed he was not a great GM when he got fired by the Houston Texans after just one season in the position. However, if you research that story, the Texans were a dysfunctional mess at the time with the team chaplain heavily involved in their football decisions. Gaine’s firing had nothing to do with his skills as a talent evaluator, but more internal politics.
Gaine has to be considered a serious candidate.
