We all know in the sports world, patience is often in short supply.
Especially in today’s social media age.
As former NFL coach Bruce Arians said about social media, “No type of failure is accepted in that universe.”
When Jets GM Darren Mougey addressed the media last week, he was asked several questions about the team’s QB Justin Fields, and in one of his responses, he kind of hinted that some patience would be needed.
“Obviously, it’s his third stop in three years with three different coordinators and a lot of moving parts, so it does take time,” Mougey said. “But I like where he’s at and I look forward to watching the progress.”
Obviously, it’s not great for the maturation process for any QB to be in three offenses in three years.
NFL playbooks are thick and complex, so in an ideal scenario, quarterbacks would stay in the same system for years and not have to start over constantly.
But you wonder if Jets Nation will heed the call for patience, which Mougey might be asking for when he says, “It does take time.”
Sports fans and patience usually don’t go hand in hand.
Especially with the fans who are paying big bucks to buy tickets to NFL games.
