It’s time for another heaping helping of Dan’s Premium Website Whispers. To join in on the fun, it’s just $7.95 a month, the cost of a small pizza at Dominos . . .
I have a funny feeling the Jets are going to throw a lot to Dustin Keller. And if they do, it’s about time. Ever since Santonio Holmes joined the team (which has worked out well), Keller has become a little bit of an afterthought in the passing offense. But getting Keller more involved isn’t just good for Keller, but also for the slumping Mark Sanchez. The two have great chemistry, which you saw over the first month of the season . . .
One thing I noticed this week in practice was that Jerricho Cotchery was running very well. His groin seems to be doing much better . . .
During Jets practices this week, Damien Woody was working with the trainers on his injured knee. You have to wonder if the lack of practice time will hurt D-Wood on Sunday facing emerging star OLB Cameron Wake . . .
While Dwight Lowery isn’t happy Jim Leonhard got hurt, you can tell by talking to him, he’s very excited to finally have a chance to play safety in earnest. He will get that chance quite a bit down the stretch. He LOVES playing safety, and feels it fits his skillset better than cornerback . . .
Rex Ryan didn’t a really smart thing playing Jason Taylor sparingly over the first ¾ of the season, so he would be fresh down the stretch.
The Jets-Dolphins game will be a good litmus test for whether this plan worked. All the stars are lined up right for Taylor on Sunday. He’s well rested. He’s highly-motivated facing his long-time team. And he will get a chance to rush against a backup right tackle – either John Jerry or Pat McQuistan. If he doesn’t have a big game on Sunday, I’d be surprised . . .
When the Jets told us on Friday that Keith Fitzhugh was offered a practice squad job, not a position on the regular roster, the story made a lot more sense to me. Why would the Jets sign a guy, who has been out of football for three months, and has very little experience, to the regular roster, when Emanuel Cook, had been playing in the UFL the last few months? Fitzhugh wasn’t in football shape. Cook is . . .
The Jets got a huge break with the injury to Miami WR Brian Hartline, who was put on IR today. They had major issues covering him in the first meeting . . .
New practice squad linebacker Braston Satele had no winter clothes when he arrived in New Jersey. The Hawaii-native has training in Arizona since being released by the Jets in early September. So between Hawaii and Arizona, he didn’t need winter clothes. He left the Jets with a high ankle sprain, but now says he’s 100 percent . . .
Hearing Chad Pennington talk this week about his latest shoulder injury was creepy. After the injury, he was asking players, in the huddle, to help him pop his shoulder back in. All the players declined, so he had to leave the game . . .
