Kind of surprised nobody has asked Robert Saleh this week about the struggles of left tackle Mekhi Becton.
Well, maybe not surprised, because the Jets beat has become monotone – dominated by the QB position.
Also, contrary to perception, it’s not a tough media market.
Becton has had a rough year, and his second bad game in a row, with Bradley Chubb getting the best of him, after Jonathan Greenard got the best of him.
Why do you cut Michael Carter, you bench Allen Lazard and C.J. Uzomah for a bit, but Becton gets a pass?
If you want to have a good football culture, you can’t have double standards.
The way Becton has been protecting the QB’s blindside is far from ideal.
And perhaps worthy of a question in a press conference.
But perhaps the topic has been off-limits because a lot of writers are friends with the agent, who is very media-friendly.
You can’t rule that out.
Most reporters don’t want to bite the hand that feeds them . . .
The Jets are pushing Quincy Williams for the Pro Bowl.
Is he a Pro Bowler?
Well people need to understand is that between those highlight film plays where this big-time hitter lights people up, there are plenty of other plays, that need some work.
The Jets’ run defense was horrendous in Miami, and he was one of many people who deserve some blame, because he too often overruns plays or can’t get off blocks.
I’m sorry if this offends some people.
But anybody who evaluates film, and just bases their film study on highlight film plays, is foolish.
Good player, but not seeing Pro Bowl level play.
Watch all the film . . .
Speaking of the run defense, which was a horror show in Miami, the edge setting was really bad.
Too many times defensive ends jumped inside the tackle and let the runner to the outside.
That isn’t how you set the edge . . .
A lot of people have been critical of Aaron Rodgers for supposedly having too much say on Jets decisions, but I don’t agree.
I’d give him more.
The Jets have missed the playoffs 13 years in a row.
This guy has 148-75-1 as an NFL starting QB. He’s a four-time NFL MVP. He’s going to be a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer.
He’s the only one with the guts to say they need to fix their culture.
He knows what a winning team, a winning culture looks like.
I’d listen to him more, not less.
I’m dead serious
Woody Johnson should lean on him as much as possible to help get his team out of the abyss . . .
The Washington Commanders coming to town is just what the doctor ordered for the Jets who have lost five of their last six games.
What their hedge fund owner did recently hurt his team, kind of like hurting the real estate market.
He traded away both first-round defensive ends, Montez Sweat and Chase Young at the trade deadline, killing the Commander pass rush, so this should really held the Jets struggling offensive line provide much better pass protection than we’ve seen recently.
