Welker press release

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Wednesday agreed to terms with unrestricted free-agent wide receiver Wes Welker on a two-year contract, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway announced.
Welker is a 10th-year player who has seen action in 140 regular-season games (81 starts) with New England (2007-12), Miami (2004-06) and San Diego (2004), recording 768 receptions for 8,580 yards (11.2 avg.) with 38 touchdowns.
He was named to the Pro Bowl in each of the last five seasons in addition to receiving first-team All-Pro recognition from the Associated Press in four of the last five years.
His five 100-catch seasons represent the most in NFL history and his 18 career games with 10 or more receptions are tied for first place in league annals.
Welker totaled 672 receptions with New England during the last six seasons to become the franchise’s all-time leader in that category and represent the most productive six-season stretch by a pass catcher in NFL history.
His career regular-season totals also include 241 punt returns for 2,417 yards (10.0 avg.) and 183 kickoff returns for 4,138 yards (22.6 avg.) and one score.
In nine career playoff games (8 starts), he posted 69 receptions for 686 yards (9.9 avg.) with four scores to go along with eight punt returns for 85 yards (10.6 avg.).
Welker, who entered the NFL with San Diego as a college free agent in 2004, owns the second-most receptions (768) by an undrafted player in league history, trailing only Broncos Ring of Famer Rod Smith (849).
In four collegiate seasons at Texas Tech University, Welker posted 259 receptions for 3,019 yards (11.7 avg.) with 21 touchdowns. He also totaled eight scores on punt returns with that total still tied for the NCAA record.
Wesley Welker, who played running back and defensive back at Heritage Hall High School on Oklahoma City, was born on May 1, 1981.
