What “best decisions for the team” will be made with the defensive depth chart?

Florham Park – “I’ve said this all along, that I’m evaluating players, I’m evaluating coaches, I’m evaluating myself, and I just felt like this was the best decision for right now for the team and for this organization,” Jets coach Aaron Glenn said on Monday.

When it comes to players, if he’s “evaluating players” and making “the best decision for right now for the team,” you would think some defensive lineup changes are coming. Just look at the film of the last two games.

He made the above statement after he fired defensive coordinator Steve Wilks on Monday.

But what about certain players, who are constantly making mental errors, or are out of position, or are just not good enough? Is he going to hold them to the same standard he held Wilks, whom he fired?

Wilks clearly didn’t do a good enough job, but the question that is never asked is why he was hired in the first place to run the defense when he got fired after one year in San Francisco as defensive coordinator in his last NFL job.

And why did Glenn farm out the defense to a guy whom he never worked with and didn’t run the same system, when Glenn made his bones as a defensive coach?

Those are questions that will probably never get asked.

Not the market it used to be.

So it will be interesting to see what defensive lineup changes Glenn makes if he’s looking to make “the best decision for right now for the team.”
