Florham Park – Santonio Holmes just addressed the media in the press room at the Jets’ training complex.
And based on what he said, it definitely didn’t sound like the wide receiver will ready for the team’s opener against Tampa Bay.
Holmes feels the buzz about his pregame work with Geno Smith, before the Jets-Jacksonville game, was blown a little out of proportion.
“All I did was run straight ahead (routes) and I ran sprints,” Holmes said.
He also added, “looks can be deceiving.”
Holmes says the foot still causes him pain every day, and he’s still not cutting on it.
“I’m not able to be at Santonio Holmes level of competition right now,” Holmes said.
Based on what he said in his presser, Holmes doesn’t sound like he’s close to being able to play football.
But if he wakes up one day, and the pain is gone, or decreases significantly, that might expedite his return.
