After the Jets’ 13-11 loss to Denver in London on Sunday, Brian Costello asked a question that perhaps was on the minds of many Jets fans: “Is [Justin Fields[ going to be your quarterback next week?”
“C’mon, man, what kind of question is that?” Glenn responded.
Many would consider it a fair one.
Fields finished the game with 45 yards passing.
Glenn also said to Costello about his question – “C’mon, you know better than that.”
Better than asking a legitimate question?
There is no doubt that the Jets’ offense needs to be “better than” what we have seen in most games this year.
The best offensive game over the last month might have been in Tampa Bay, with Tyrod Taylor at QB.
Teams tend to blitz the Jets a lot, and in that game, there were several throws where Taylor connected with receivers as he was about to get hit, like on an 11-yard TD pass to Garrett Wilson in the fourth quarter.
If teams are going to blitz, you have to make the pay. Some would argue Fields doesn’t make blitzing teams pay enough for playing that gambling style of defense.
Sometimes, Fields holds the ball too long, something that NFL Network analyst Kurt Warner said repeatedly throughout the broadcast.
If you are having protection issues, in part because the QB is holding the ball too long, shouldn’t playing the veteran backup, who tends to get rid of the ball faster, be an option?
So you could make an argument, even though Glenn didn’t like it, Costello’s question was quite legitimate.
