Morris County – Aaron Glenn was asked on Monday what his message to the fans would be, in the midst of a 3-12 first season as Jets coach
“For the fans, listen, it’s going to be a tough road,” Glenn told reporters on Monday. “We knew that, but, man, the thing is, we know exactly what we’re doing. We have a plan. Just don’t let go of the rope, I would say that.”
Glenn was asked in February about Quinnen Williams, a former Jets defensive tackle, now with Dallas, tweeting: “Another rebuild year for me I guess” after the team decided to move on from QB Aaron Rodgers.
“I understand the reaction of the players, but I’ll say this: Every decision that me and [general manager Darren Mougey] make is to win and to win now,” Glenn said.
So if “every decision that me and [general manager Darren Mougey] make is to win and to win now,” how do you marry that quote with the team now sitting at 3-12 and Glenn saying on Monday, “For the fans, listen, it’s going to be a tough road. We knew that, but, man, the thing is, we know exactly what we’re doing. We have a plan.”
Some would argue that this represents a dichotomy in narratives.
But some would argue that bringing this up now is a case of playing “gotcha.”
So it all depends on what your worldview is.
