Miami Gardens – The Miami Dolphins are decimated at corner. They are starting two journeymen they signed off the street.
This is a team you should be able to have success against through the air, but it didn’t happen.
Justin Fields is a talented runner and has a great arm, but he must show some improvement in going through his progressions and becoming a full-field reader.
But it’s hard to criticize him for not being great at progressions or field vision because that was all over the tape his first four years.
If you are a reporter or fan, how can you objectively criticize a player for doing for his new team, what was all over the film in his first four years in the league with other teams?
This isn’t on him . .
Jets kick returner Xavier Gipson was cut after a fumble in the opener. At Miami, the new returner, Isaiah Williams, had a fumbled kickoff and a fair catch on two two-yard line, which is a no-no.
Braiden McGregor dominated at the line on a gain of 22 by Devon Achane in the fourth quarter. He might be a little too lean to hold up against the run. He gives you all he’s got, but when you don’t have great size or speed, it’s tough.
McGregor and Tyler Baron belong on the practice squad, not as key figures in the defensive end rotation. This was a miscalculation.
Just like the previous two years, the Jets’ defense is just not very good.
Not sure where all the hype came from.
While it’s clear Aaron Glenn and his staff need to do a better job coaching this team, Darren Mougey and his staff have some self-scouting to do as well.
This is just not a good enough roster.
The Dolphins are decimated at corner, and Josh Reynolds and Arian Smith, had no catches or targets.
Don’t give me the nonsense they were never open.
They never looked at it as a better way of putting it . . .
The Miami Dolphins don’t have a great offensive line, but it was hard to tell on Monday night.
The Jets finished the game with no sacks.
And they gave up 123 yards rushing, including 20 carries for 99 yards by Devon Achane, who broke a lot of tackles.
This Jets defense is a mess right now.
It was really surprising that Aaron Glenn, who made his bones as a defensive coach, would farm out the defense to Steve Wilks, whose last defensive gig in San Francisco ended after one season.
If you wanted to hire Wilks as an assistant head coach to help you as a first-time head coach, since he has head coaching experience, that is fine.
But to throw him the car keys to run the Jets’ defense was strange. Surprisingly, Woody allowed it.
In Miami, the Jets’ defense was pretty undisciplined, constantly out of position, biting on a lot of the Dolphins motion and misdirection chicanery.
If you are going to hire a head coach with no experience as a head coach, you should go out and spend big on three experienced coordinators with track records to buttress him . . .
Why was 6-1, 236-pound power back Braelon Allen returning kicks?
Why would you use a huge power back on kick returns?
I was going to ask Aaron Glenn that question after the game, but had a hard time jumping in during the short press conference, because somebody in the front row asked half the questions, and none of the questions were particularly good . . .
Please don’t allow people to use the excuse that this rebuild was going to take time.
That excuse should not fly.
Of course, you didn’t expect a Super Bowl contender, but the sloppiness of this team, including 13 penalties tonight, is unacceptable in the first year of a program or the 10th.
