ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky feels that Alabama’s Ty Simpson is a better QB prospect than Indiana’s Francisco Mendoza, the presumptive top pick in the draft by the Las Vegas Raiders.
“I think Ty Simpson is QB1,’ Orlovsky said. “I think Ty Simpson is the best quarterback in this class. I think when you look at the body of work and what was asked of these two quarterbacks, you have to start with the question, who needed to do more to carry their football team to play well? Ty Simpson, and it’s not close.”
And now Orlovsky is getting attacked by many for this take.
Why?
None of us knows how any of the QBs in this draft will do in the NFL.
That will also be the case next year in a supposed great QB draft.
It’s the case every year.
Trying to figure out if college QB prospects will excel on the next level is the epitome of a crapshoot.
Why do you think so many first-round QBs don’t work out?
Because none of us know how college QB prospects will do reading NFL defenses until they have to read NFL defenses.
So, whether it’s a fan in the stands or an NFL GM, none of them know how anybody at that position is going to work out on the NFL level.
And since nobody knows how any of these QBs are going to do in the NFL, why is it sacrilegious for Orlovsky to opine that he thinks Simpson is better than Mendoza?
