Why didn’t Jets make him their assistant GM?

SNY’s Connor Hughes announced on X: “Chad Alexander, the #Jets Director of Player Personnel, is leaving to take a promotion as the #Chargers assistant general manager, sources tell @SNYtv.”

Considering the Jets moved on from assistant GM Rex Hogan recently, why wouldn’t they just promote Alexander to assistant GM?

Not judging, just wondering.

If Chargers football boss Jim Harbaugh believes Alexander is worthy of being their assistant GM, why not the Jets? Alexander’s been working in the NFL personnel world for over 20 years. He’s certainly paid his dues.

Who knows? Maybe there is more to this story than meets the eye.

But Hughes is very high on Alexander:

“Alexander will be a GM in short order,” tweeted Hughes. “He’s a rising star in front office world.”
