Why was the Jets passing offense off?

Florham Park – Coming off a strong game in a loss to Detroit, Jets QB Geno Smith seemed a little off on Sunday in a loss to Chicago.

Smith finished 8-of-15 passes for 119 yards, 58 yards coming on one play. The Jets were 0-7 on third down.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn feels it was just one of those weeks that happens to all QBs at times.

“It’s the NFL, heck, I remember playing against Tom Brady in New Orleans, I think we held him to 40-something percent passing one time,” Glenn recalls. “I wish this was fairy land and every week is going to be (great for the QB).”

One factor that seemed to cause some issues for the Jets’ passing offense was all the disguised looks dialed up by Bears DC Dennis Allen.

It can make the QB not trust his eyes at times.

“Sometimes the illusion of pressure is just as problematic,” said former NFL QB Drew Brees, who called the game on Fox with Tim Brando.

Allen seemed to win the chess match against the Jets offense with his chicanery on Sunday.

But Glenn feels Smith will bounce back strong this week against Cleveland.

“I know that he’s going to get right back to who he is, and that’s completing a high percentage of throws,” Glenn said.
