The Athletic’s Dianna Russini announced the Jets were interested in adding former Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith to their offensive staff this off-season.
Russini said on her Scoop City podcast that the Jets “talked to (Smith) about possibly being part of the play-calling process.”
Why on earth would Smith even consider doing this?
Why would he go to the Jets to be part of a “play-calling process” when he could go to the Pittsburgh Steelers and run the entire offensive show, which he decided to do?
Teams can talk to whoever they want, and people can generate scoops out of it, but why would Smith have even considered a job like this? To go somewhere to look over the offensive coordinator’s shoulder. Man, that would have been fun job.
Whether you like Hackett or not, this story that keeps generating new scoops for insiders doesn’t make a lot of sense.
“You should trust me and I trust Nathaniel,” Rodgers recently said on Mad Dog Sports Radio on SiriusXM. “So, to me, that’s the end of the story. His and my partnership is one that’s been fruitful in the past, and it’s gonna be fruitful again.”
