Why criticize the player?

Florham Park – When Justin Fields has an up-and-down practice for the Jets, you will often hear people criticizing him.

Why?

He was in the NFL for four seasons before joining the Jets, and what you are seeing this summer is exactly what is on his film.

He’s an electrifying runner, with a rocket arm, who can make all the throws, who is a tad inconsistent as a passer.

So if he’s doing the same thing he did in his first four NFL seasons in Jets practice, why would you criticize him?

“Justin Fields from the pocket reminds me of [my golf game],” said Fox Sports’ Mark Schlereth on his podcast. “You watch him from the pocket, he’s off on that throw, the timing was bad on that throw, and then all of a sudden  he hits the outside receiver on a seam route and he’s perfect down the seam – in front of the safety before he has a chance to break on it and it’s a dime – bam – and the guy is down the seam for a touchdown.”

When you add him to your team, perhaps this is what you are signing up for.

Dave Kingman.

A home run slugger who also strikes out more than some would like.
