Florham Park – Aaron Glenn is not a fan of media leaks.
So he can’t be happy that people leaked stuff from private team meetings to SNY insider Connor Hughes about the team’s former defensive coordinator, Steve Wilks
Hughes tweeted on December 15:
“Sources to @SNYtv: Jets defensive players had grown increasingly frustrated with Steve Wilks throughout this season. Wilks’ system rebuffed player efforts to take their shot to make plays, attack. Players were told to ‘let the scheme take care of it’ because of how it worked in the past. Many players felt this held them back. One player, sources said, called out Wilks in a meeting, questioning a call and pointing out the flaws in the system. Another player repeatedly expressed concerns with usage and what players ‘can’t do’ and was instructed to ‘stay in your gap.’ Continued failures only increased frustrations.”
It will be interesting to see, with Wilks gone, if these disgruntled players, whoever they are, will get better at things like shedding blocks, reading keys, not going for the cheese on misdirection plays, and biting too hard on play-action fakes, leaving the middle of the field wide open for big pass plays.
It will also be interesting to see what Glenn will do about these leaks, something he’s not a fan of.
