With Williams traded, this WR will now get more of a chance . . .

Florham Park – With the Jets trading WR Mike Williams to Pittsburgh this week, expect a bigger role for another 6-4 physical receiver, Irvin Charles.

“He grows every day, the work ethic is unmatched,” Jets coach Jeff Ulbrich said on Friday about the third-year receiver out of Indiana University in Pennsylvania.

Charles has been the Jets’ best special teams cover guy the last couple of seasons.

“You’ve seen the byproduct of all his work in special teams now,” Ulbrich said. “lf he weren’t the special teams Pro Bowl representative, I don’t know what it takes to get that because he is unblockable right now. The Patriots put four on him at one point.”

Now Charles will have a chance to show his wares on offense.

“We all know he’s big, he’s fast, he’s tough, and as he starts to learn this receiver
position, he’s going to be an asset for us on offense,” Ulbrich said.
