Jets need to repeat this model in their great reset coming up . . .

After years of futility for his team, then Jets owner Leon Hess hired Bill Parcells to run his football operation in 1997.

Hess eschewed the committee approach, which allowed businessmen to be involved in football decisions, and threw the car keys to Parcells and let him be the football czar.

While they didn’t win a Super Bowl, they did advance to an AFC Championship game, and the culture over Parcells’ three-year reign was strong.

Many would argue, at this time in Jets history, Woody Johnson should channel Hess, make a similar move, and hire a big-time coach, a program and culture builder, and let him do his thing.

You could make a strong argument that this isn’t a time in Jets history for a hot-shot coordinator trying to be a head coach for the first time.

Granted, obviously, sometimes hot-shot coordinators turn into good head coaches.

But the Jets can’t take that chance after 14 years out of the playoffs.

They need a coach who is settled science and has shown he knows how to win.
