Aaron Rodgers not only gives Jets their best chance to win with his work under center.
But his impact goes beyond that, and you saw that with his words today.
He said something today that can help fix the Jets’ culture, which must be done.
“Anything in this building that we’re doing individually or collectively that has nothing to do with real winning needs to be assessed,” Rodgers said.
“If you want to be a winning organization and put yourself in position to win championships and be competitive, everything that you do matters. And the bulls— that has nothing to do with winning needs to get out of the building. So that’ll be the focus moving forward.”
Wow. Wow. Wow
Not a lot of players would have the guts to say, but this guy, with his track record as a player (4-time MVP), his huge guaranteed contract, the fact that he will be a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer is kind of beyond reproach, and he knows it.
He also doesn’t care about ruffling feathers.
And after missing the playoffs for 13 straight years, some feathers needed to be ruffled, if the Jets are going to turn this around.
They need to take heed of what Rodgers said today, and that includes owner Woody Johnson.
There is no malicious intent, but the organization is sometimes too focused on things that don’t have anything to do with winning and losing, like what uniform combination they will wear on game day.
There are other things, but no need to go down the list today.
But here is the good thing about Woody. He will listen to Rodgers.
He is not like David Tepper in Carolina.
Yes, Woody’s record as owner hasn’t been ideal, but he will listen.
Sometimes he’s just gotten bad advice from past executives from former regimes.
I’m telling you, he will listen.
It’s hard when you work for a big company to be blunt with the current boss, and tell him to change his ways.
Often that can get you fired.
People have bills and mortgages to pay, so they won’t go there.
So the majority of people aren’t going to be blunt with the person signing their checks.
Rodgers doesn’t care, and that is why he’s that man who can effect change at this important time in Jets’ history.
I’m telling you, if Rodgers tells Woody, we need to change this and that, he will change this and that.
And a lot of things need to change.
When you see teams like Houston, Cleveland and Pittsburgh in the playoffs, there is no reason, why the Jets, couldn’t have made it also. Those teams aren’t better than the Jets.
Considering the talent on their roster, even without Rodgers, why couldn’t they beat beatable teams like Atlanta, Las Vegas and the Los Angeles Chargers?
No excuse.
So many, many changes are needed. You get the sense that some think that Rodgers will fix everything. Not true and the QB knows it.
The culture needs to be fixed, and part of that is too much “bulls— that has nothing to do with winning.”
So they need to follow Rodgers lead and “get it out of the building.”
