The defense was good, but that is not the entire story . . .

Jets coach Aaron Glenn feels the team’s defense was the more dominant side of the ball at Tuesday’s practice.

“Some days the offense will have a great day, other days the defense will have a great day, and it’s always going to be this jockeying for position, and today I thought the defense really stood out on what they came out to do,” Glenn said. “So, hats off to those guys.”

The Jets’ run defense shined today, with some strong work by their defensive line led by tackles Quinnen Williams and Jay Tufele.

However, while they were very run-centric today on offense, when they did pass the ball, some would argue their passing game was somewhat pedestrian.

After practice, Glenn was asked what he thought of QB Justin Fields’ performance today.

“I got to get a chance to look at the film to give you a true evaluation of that,” Glenn said. “But for the most part, I thought overall the defense did a better job today.”

So while the Jets’ defense was good today, there were opportunities in the passing game that perhaps weren’t taken advantage of, like an overthrow by Fields to Garrett Wilson down the deep middle.

So while the Jets’ defense did some solid work today, some of the offensive issues were self-inflicted.
