Right now, the Jets have four premium picks in the 2026 draft:
- Round 1 (No. 2 overall)
- Round 1 (No. 16 overall)
- Round 2 (No. 33 overall)
- Round 2 (No. 44 overall)
Now, it’s well-documented that they need a QB in the draft, so one of those selections, perhaps #2 overall, could go to picking a signal-caller.
But you could make a strong argument that the other three picks should be on defense.
Now, of course, they should stick to the value board in their war room and not reach for defensive players.
However, you could argue the Jets need 7-8 new defensive starters, and getting three with premium picks in the first two rounds could be the way to go. Obviously, they will add a few defensive starters in free agency as well.
But first and second round picks, especially four in the top 44 selections, are usually starting quality prospects.
Among the Jets’ needs on defense are an edge-rusher, a massive game-wrecking defensive tackle, a coverage linebacker, and a ball-hawking safety.
So, along with a quarterback, if they can nail the three other picks, with bona fide defensive starters, this could certainly help them turn around their fortunes.
