You wanna know one reason Jets O-Line is underachieving, how about this . . .

On March 25 in Orlando at the 2024 NFL League Meetings, Robert Saleh was asked about his offensive line coach Keith Carter and part of his answer created headlines when he said, “messaging can get lost in the tone.”

In other words, he was yelling at players too much last season and was sent for sensitivity training.

“He’s gone through a development program that I think has really helped him,” Saleh said during OTAs. “Excited to see it progress.”

On June 4, Carter was asked by a reporter if he was asked to tweak his coaching style.

“We have to be men of our word,” Carter said. “If we’re asking players to constantly improve and get better, so do we as coaches. I’m a hard-charger, I’m a yeller, even sometimes when I don’t mean to be. I’m focusing on making sure my timing is right.”

When did you ever think you’d hear that an offensive line coach had to go to sensitivity training? Usually, those guys are amongst the most fiery coaches you will find, prodding and pushing the big guys up front, often carrying over 300 pounds, to go beyond their means.

The old regime sending an O-Line coach to sensitivity training was bizarre.
