The New York Jets could get a double-dose of help on Sunday in the AFC East.
Dallas has a good chance at beating New England.
The Jets didn’t do a good enough job taking advantage of New England’s 32nd ranked pass defense.
Tony Romo probably will.
Romo gets Miles Austin back from the injury list, and Dez Bryant had a couple of weeks to heal from a deep thigh bruise suffered against the Jets in Week One.
New England has been vulnerable outside the numbers and down field, and the Jets didn’t do much in these areas.
Romo likely will.
As for Dallas dealing with Tom Brady, nobody did a better job shutting down Tom Brady last year than Rob Ryan, who was in Cleveland. The Browns blew out New England, 34-14.
Obviously the Jets lost to New England last Sunday. So Rex gave his twin brother a ton of insight into his experience against New England.
You know that Rex wants Rob and the Cowboys to beat New England, to help the Jets in the division.
New England is averaging 128 yards on the ground.
They gashed the Jets last week.
It’s unlikely they will do the same to Dallas.
The Cowboys have one of the NFL’s best run defenses.
And on top of all that, Dallas is the fresher team, coming off a bye week.
The bye week also helped Jason Garrett and company prepare a great gameplan.
So don’t be shocked if Dallas pulls this one out.
Also in AFC East action, the Buffalo Bills travel to MetLife Stadium to face the Football Giants.
Very quietly, Eli Manning is having an excellent year. He has a 102 QB rating for the season.
And let’s be honest about the Bills, while their offensive has been impressive, their defense has been pedestrian.
In fact, pedestrian might be kind; they’re 30th in the NFL. They have only played one strong defensive game, and that was in the opener against Kansas City.
So Eli should be able to do a lot of damage against a Bills defensive unit that will be without outside linebacker Shawne Merriman, out with an Achilles injury.
And the Giants pass rush should able to put a lot pressure on Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The Bills starting left tackle, Demetrius Bell, will miss the game.
So don’t be shocked if the Jets get some help on Sunday . . .
Other thoughts from around the league –
The Redskins defense has taken a quantum leap this year. The Jets will have their hands full . . .
Mark Sanchez isn’t the only third-year QB struggling; Matt Ryan is also. He has a 79.9 QB rating and six picks.
Josh Freeman is also having a rough season so far.
It’s kind of interesting that Derrick Mason makes his Houston Texans debut against his old team, the Baltimore Ravens, in Baltimore.
He had to be very helpful to the Houston coaches in preparing for this game . . .
People think the Houston Texans are in trouble with Mario Williams out.
I don’t agree. He wasn’t a great fit for the 3-4 OLB spot, anyway.
Now the Texans are starting Brooks Reed and Connor Barwin, a pair of high draft picks who are perfect fits for the 3-4 OLB spots.
I think they will be fine.
Premium will return Tuesday afternoon.
