Clearly it was an enormous mistake to give Santonio Holmes $23.5 million in guaranteed money.
One, because he’s got a bad behavioral track record, so it was a very risky investment.
Secondly, because the Jets don’t have the kind of play at quarterback where they can take advantage of his talent on a regular basis.
And the second reason clearly contributed to Holmes checking out a little bit late in the year.
He obviously was fed up with how bad the quarterback play was with the Jets, and he let it impact his attitude.
I’m not making excuses for Holmes, just dealing with reality.
The Jets need to move on from Holmes as soon as they can.
And they also need to move on from the unnamed Jets in the Daily News.
