Florham Park – It’s time for more of the inside word from Jets Camp in Florham Park. Sign-up now for your daily dose of the good stuff from One Jets Drive . . .
Even at 35, outside linebacker Jason Babin still brings quite a bit to the table as a pass rusher, and he is going to make himself tough to cut.
Late in practice, in a two-minute drill, he beat right tackle Breno Giacomini for a sack. This sack kind of messed up the plan to get the ball down field quickly in a hurry-up offense, as the Jets worked on situational football . . .
Cornerback Marcus Williams had a pick on a deep pass that was underthrown by Ryan Fitzpatrick. It was intended for T.J. Graham. Fitzpatrick’s inconsistency on deep balls, due to a middle-of-the-road arm, makes it a dangerous proposition anytime one of these plays is dialed up.
The best case scenario for Fitzpatrick, vis-à-vis the deep ball, is for the Jets to have a good running game, so he can sell play-action, to create quality spacing between the receiver and the defensive back . . .
Darrelle Revis’s agent Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod were at Jets camp today.
They are masters at playing the media game.
In the photo above, from a distance, you can see Feinsod talking to Manish Mehta, off to the left side . . .
Wide receiver Quincy Enunwa had a very good practice today. He grabbed a 50-50 ball from Antonio Cromartie down the deep left side.
A few plays later, he caught a deep out from Geno Smith in the red zone.
I’m telling you, the Jets are going to have some tough decisions to make a receiver. A couple of good players are likely going to be released.
Enunwa is on the bubble, but he is still practice squad eligible, so that might be an option to keep him in the building. Same with Shaq Evans . . .
Quarterback Bryce Petty threw another Pick Six today, this time to cornerback Darrin Wall on forced pass to WR Jon Rumph.
This is going to take some time . . .
Brandon Marshall made some comments on ESPN today about Jay Cutler, his quarterback with the Chicago Bears the last few seasons.
“But for me last year, I felt like, when we are going on 10 years, nine, 10 years in the league — it’s time to get it,” Marshall said. “I felt like I was the only one in the organization that had the ‘huevos’ to hold [Cutler] accountable.”
Maybe, but from what I hear Marshall was a problem in Chicago last year.
And look how quickly the new brass – GM Ryan Pace and Head Coach John Fox – got rid of him when they took over.
A source close to the Bears told me recently that Marshall was “toxic” in Chicago last year.
Marshall is an unbelievable talent, but there are reasons he’s on his fourth team in nine years.
We will see if Todd Bowles can keep him under control . . .
