It’s time for a heaping helping of Jets Whispers leading into their season opener at New Era Stadium in Buffalo . . .
I’m fascinated by this Kony Ealy situation.
The guy has talent, but he’s certainly an enigma.
Clearly something has been missing with this player. Think about it – two pretty good organizations, two recent Super Bowl participants, New England and Carolina, gave up on him in a matter of months,.
I asked Jets defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers today what might have been missing in Carolina and New England that he needs to fix with the Jets.
“I think the reality of being cut and hitting the streets has helped him,” Rodgers said. “He’s come in here and done everything we’ve asked of him. I can’t speak on him when he was in Carolina or New England.”
Why didn’t the reality set in when Carolina traded him in the spring to New England?
Hey, the Jets could catch lightening in a bottle here, and get the player who had three sacks in the Super Bowl for Carolina. Or they could get the player who was demoted to backup duty the season after.
But they need to stay on top of this situation. Something was clearly amiss with this player before he arrived in Florham Park.
However, if this works out, he’s just what the doctor order for the Jets – an edge rusher who can get to the quarterback . . .
A tabloid writer wrote today in a column – “Truth be told, it will require a high pain threshold to endure the 2017 campaign.”
There has been a lot of writing like this throughout the off-season and summer. Look, people can write whatever they want, but what I don’t get is the definitive nature of the writing. Like they are soothsayers and they know exactly what is going to happen.
I, personally, have no idea what is going to happen.
It’s mystery theatre to me.
I’m greatly intrigued by what is going to happen.
Matt Forte said the goal is the playoffs and beyond.
Many reporters and fans think they are tanking.
Let’s see what happens. Unlike other people in my business, I don’t have a crystal ball and can’t see the future.
I wish I could, it would be a great tool to use in the stock market and with real estate purchases.
Jets special team’s coach Brant Boyer got emotional, a little teary-eyed, when talking about the team’s former long-snapper, Tanner Purdum.
“He will always have a fishing and hunting buddy,” the emotional Boyer said.
Aside from liking Duke’s Thomas Hennessy since college for his long-snapping ability, the Jets have been pretty honest about why they made the change. There was total transparency on this one – they want a long-snapper who can help more tackling returners. Purdum wasn’t good at that. They think Hennessy is better. Of course the most important thing is the snap, but the tackling part can’t be minimized. You don’t want to be running down there with only nine (the punter is usually a non-factor in terms of tackling).
