Morris County – Time for a heaping helping . . .
I have to admit, Leonard Williams was in much better shape today then I expected. When we last saw him on Sunday with what looked like a serious back injury, there is now way you would think he was playing this week. While he didn’t practice today, he was uniform and with this the defensive linemen in individual drills. He might have a chance to play on Sunday.
While on the topic of defensive linemen, I saw Mo Wilkerson practicing with the defensive line today, but Todd said it’s a game-time decision.
Very confusing situation.
If the Jets are afraid that Wilkerson will get hurt, and they will have pay him his $16 million 2018 salary (guaranteed against injury), then why is he practicing? Couldn’t he get hurt in practice? I saw him running around cones in a drill today. He certainly could get hurt doing that. Teddy Bridgewater blew out his knee last year in a routine practice.
I think there are games being played here. If Wilkerson is kept of practice due to some lateness issues, for an extended period of time, this could lead to a union grievance. But on game day, teams can make whoever they want active and don’t need to explain anything.
So I think this is a legal issue.
After all, Todd said last week, Mo “served his sentence” after being left home from New Orleans due to lateness.
So if he “served his sentence,” why was he inactive against the Los Angeles Rams and now possibly against New England?
There is some gamesmanship going on here . . .
The Jets signed defensive lineman Francis Kallon to their practice squad today.
Or should I say offensive lineman Francis Kallon?
You see Kallon, a London-native, played defensive line at Georgia Tech.
But his last stop before the Jets was with the Green Bay Packers practice squad where they were playing him on the offensive line.
And with the Jets today, he was wearing #63, a number usually reserved for the offensive line.
But during the half-hour the media is allowed at practice, I saw him working with the defensive linemen.
I think the Jets are trying to figure out what to do with him. To me, he looks like a left tackle at 6-5, 300 pounds with long arms and quick feet (he has a soccer background).
He’s pretty new to football after just picking up the sport as a senior in high school in the Atlanta-area.
He had moved to Atlanta from England with his mother to join his father who was there working. The family is originally from Sierra Leone in Africa . . .
The media surrounded Darron Lee at his locker today, and were mostly talking to his back.
He didn’t seem very into talking to the media. He never turned around.
I asked another reporter what was going on, and he said he doesn’t think Lee has liked some of the coverage he has received.
If that is do, I don’t get the beef.
He’s been very good playing in the box against the run and pass rushing, but pedestrian in coverage. In 14 starts, he has three defensed passes. That isn’t great. That is the same number he had last season – three PD’s.
Very good box player, average in coverage.
If that is offensive – I plead guilty of all charges . . .
