Madison, N.J. – As usual, a lot going on around Jets camp, so let’s not waste any time, let’s get into some of the hot topics . . .
From what we hear, the Bills have only sold 30,000 seats for this game.
So not only is this game blacked out, but it looks like the Bills are going to take a major financial hit on Sunday.
And the Jets visitor’s take isn’t going to be much either.
Ralph Wilson Stadium holds 73,967 people.
There were people in the Bills’ organization who were surely hoping the Jets would start Tim Tebow after it came out that Greg McElroy is concussed.
Tebow is always good for the gate . . .
So when did McElroy suffer a concussion in the Jets-San Diego game?
One league source, who reviewed all 11 sacks extensively, thinks it might have happened on the second to last sack, which occurred on the Jets’ last possession.
McElroy was slammed to the ground by Chargers DE Kendall Reyes, and his head bounced off the turf. Then he suffered a very hard hit on the next play, so if he did suffer the concussion on the Reyes’ play, this next play didn’t help matters . . .
From what we hear, McElroy has a “minor” concussion.
There is a shot that McElroy will be fine on Sunday, and could pass the baseline test, but he’s not going to get that chance.
With teams being so careful with head injuries, the Jets are going to take no chances.
Understandably, McElroy is pretty bummed out.
But you know what, it might be a blessing in disguise for him.
It’s going to be a typical awful Buffalo winter weather – snow, wind whipping around – just plain ugly.
While I don’t think McElroy has a bad arm, it’s by no means a howitzer.
These conditions could make him look bad. Heck, it could make rocket-armed quarterbacks look bad.
So in a strange way, it might help McElroy’s stock a little by sitting this one out . . .
On the last cover of Jets Confidential, we had Bill Parcells.
We had an editorial saying the Jets need to bring him in as a consultant to help them lead them out of the wilderness.
Would he be interested?
It’s hard to tell, but a friend of his feels he might be . . .
As we reported a few weeks ago, Woody Johnson would like to re-assign Mike Tannenbaum for position, and hire a new GM.
Jason La Canfora had the same story a few days ago, and mentioned the name Mike MacCagnan as a potential candidate.
When I heard this name, I have to admit, I’d never heard of him.
He’s the Director of College Scouting for the Houston Texans, but he’s only been in that role since 2011. Before that, he was a scout.
Look, I’m not saying he’s a bad candidate, but this name came out of nowhere.
I asked one league executive what his take was on why a reporter would bring up that name.
The executive got back to me with a good reason that name was floated.
MacCagnan hired an agent – Bob LaMonte. For those not familiar with that name, he’s the king of agents for coaches and GM’s.
When you see names of potential candidates mentioned by the top NFL writers, they often come from agents.
So that fact that MacCagnan’s name is floating around, clearly LaMonte is doing his job.
