The Jets have some big needs, like some offensive help, but just as big a need is a massive run-stopping nose tackle.
The Jets had behemoth NT Al Woods early last season before a season-ending injury, but he was 36, was only playing on a limited basis, and at the end of his career, so their run defense issues ran deeper than just losing Woods.
The Jets need a young, massive, powerful nose tackle, an immovable object in the middle of their line who is a force against the run.
Too often the Jets gave up big runs up the middle because undersized defensive tackles got engulfed by massive interior offensive linemen, who sometimes outweighed them by like 30 pounds.
A perfect example of what they need, is a guy like former Jets nose tackle Kris Jenkins, who made it very hard to run up the middle, and they can get a chip off the old block, his son Kris Jenkins out of Michigan.
Other massive, athletic run-plugging options could be LSU’s Jordan Jefferson and one of the Texas prospects – T’Vondre Sweat or Byron Murphy.
