Foxboro – You could fit the Jets margin of error in a thimble, and having to settle for too many field goals did them in tonight in Foxboro . . .
Great sign for the Jets.
Late in the first half, Antwan Barnes showed a tremendous burst chasing Tom Brady out of bounds on the left side.
Barnes has been rehabbing a very bad knee injury for a year, and this was his first game back. He looks like he has his old speed back. Barnes has always had great speed for his position . . .
The Jets’ offensive line was very good in New England.
They deserve credit for playing well.
But it also should be pointed out – Denver’s Front Seven is light years better than New England.
Vince Wilfork is a class act, but he can’t move anymore.
The Jets destroyed his follow defensive tackle Casey Walker, who seemed overmatched.
Belichick has done an awful job finding interior defensive line talent in recent years.
Jets did a good job pounding these guys . . .
I don’t know how serious it is, but looks like Oday Aboushi hurt his left shoulder. He spent a lot of time in the trainer’s room after the game, and it was heavily wrapped leaving the stadium . . .
DeMario Davis seemed to have some kind of left ankle injury . . .
I hate to say it because these are human being with families, but if Rex stays, he’s going to have to make some coaching staff changes, especially on defense. There are too many blown assignments in the back seven this year.
As I’ve said many times, he really misses Brian Van Gorder (Notre Dame), who was like a bench coach to him . . .
The Jets obviously kicked too many field goals tonight.
Like a lot of young quarterbacks, the red zone isn’t a strength of Geno Smith.
Obviously Smith did some nice things tonight, but one reason the Jets lost was having to settle for field goals on their first four scoring drive.
Look, the kid is tough, and he’s giving it his best shot, but he’s wildly inconsistent, locks on to his primary read too much, and generally needs players to flash wide open to make throws.
I just see a quarterback with an 8-8 upside.
I could be wrong, but as you saw the last six weeks, the Jets faced six teams with true answers at quarterback, and the came up short.
The Jets might not have the best weapons in the league, but as Doug Marrone said when he switched from E.J. Manuel to Kyle Orton, “we need more plays from the quarterback position.”
And that is how I feel about the Jets.
In a quarterback driven-league, they need more plays from the quarterback position . . .
You know what I find ridiculous – Geno Smith hurts his leg, and has to come out of the game.
Michael Vick comes in for one play, and then Smith limps back on to the field and takes back over.
Why the rush?
If Vick had to play a series, is it the end of the world?
Do you need to rush Smith back, like you would rush a franchise quarterback?
On his first play back, Geno was married to his first read, to Eric Decker, who wasn’t open, and Darrelle Revis broke it up. and the Jets punted.
The Geno or bust mindset of the Jets’ brass is misguided.
