New Jersey – It’s time for a heaping of helping of Dan’s Website Whispers – check it out – just $7.95 a month. Let’s get it started . . .
The Jets waived guard Hayworth Hicks today. This should come as no surprise.
This is Mike Tannenbaum’s M.O. – steal another player’s practice squad player – keep him on the roster for the minimum three weeks, and then cut him and try to move him to practice squad.
If I were another GM, I’d be a little ticked at him if he did this to me.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have a bunch of injuries, so they signed two players off other team’s practice squads today.
That is understandable. They need players, so teams understand these kind of raids.
On the other hand, the Jets had no need for a guard right now. Maybe next year when Brandon Moore and Matt Slauson are free agents, but if I’m Colts GM Ryan Grigson, I’m pissed at Tannenbaum for his handling of Hicks.
And I’m Hicks, I go back to the Indianapolis practice squad if I have a chance. Surely, they would take him back on their practice squad, where he was most of the year.
Some might be impressed with Tannenbaum’s non-stop moves, the constant churning, but I’m not. I think a lot of it is chasing windmills . . .
People wonder if the Jets will put in a claim for pass rusher Jason Babin, who was released by the Philadelphia Eagles today. Perhaps.
First of all, he’s much more comfortable playing 4-3 end. He’s not comfortable at 3-4 OLB. So the Jets aren’t an ideal fit for him. Secondly, whatever teams claims him will be responsible for the $1,639,706 for the rest of this season. With issues at the box office, and the terrible economy, Johnson might not want to pay that kind of money, especially, with the Jets probably one more loss from being out of it. We will see.
There is no question the Jets can win there next three games – they are playing three struggling football teams.
Arizona’s quarterback situation is worse than the Jets, and they are now trying sixth round rookie Ryan Lindley under center.
And if you want to give a rookie no chance of being successful, put him behind the Cardinals’ current offensive line, with two rookies tackles and a backup center.
Rex Ryan has a good history of making rookie quarterbacks uncomfortable with his “46” defense, and that includes Andrew Luck this year.
If the Jets lose this game, I’d be shocked.
Then they play Jacksonville (2-9), a team that made EIGHT roster moves today. When you see that kind of activity, you know they have major issues. Here are the moves –
Put on Injured reserve: RB Jalen Parmele (groin) and CB Will Middleton (concussion).
Waived: WR Micheal Spurlock and S Chris Harris.
Signed: CB Antwaun Molden, WR Quan Cosby, RB Jordan Todman and WR Toney Clemons.
By the way, even though they managed to beat Tennessee on Sunday, they gave up seven sacks.
Then it’s off to Tennessee for the Jets. This team is a mess. They just scapegoated OC Chris Palmer – firing him, a decision that has owner Bud Adams written all over it. The problem wasn’t Palmer, it’s Jake Locker, who is a great athlete, but not a very good quarterback.
I know the Jets have major issues of their own, but they do have enough talent to win the next three games. In two of these games, Sanchez will be the better QB – Arizona and Tennessee.
Against Jax, it’s probably a push – Sanchez and Chad Henne are comparable.
