This usually is not a great thing for a defense
but it actually might be a slight positive for the Jets this week.
With no pressure, Patrick Mahomes has an average by NFL QB rating standards. But under pressure, his QBR is nearly double the average.
The Jets don’t have a great pass rush, so that could help them a little this week.
Perhaps not, but it’s something to keep in mind . . .
I’m not somebody who judges injured players. In most cases, if you’re injured, you’re injured. But it should not come as a huge surprise that two Jets starting receivers, Breshad Perriman and Jamison Crowder, are out this week, and have been injured quite a bit this season. Both players have a history of missing time due to injuries, prior to their arrivals in Florham Park, especially Perriman. Now Perriman has a concussion this week, which is nothing to judge or take likely, but prior to this he also missed time with knee and ankle issues this year.
So based on the past, these players being out shouldn’t come a huge surprise, especially Crowder with a pulled muscle. He has a history of soft tissue injuries, which is not his fault. It is what it is . . .
Wide receiver D.J. Montgomery has been on the Jets’ practice squad all year, and it looks like the Jets are close to giving him a test ride . . .
Speaking of players who unfortunately have a history of injuries, to no fault of their own, Blake Cashman is out with a hamstring injury.
He was probably going to play more this week since the Jets have had issues with linebacker pass coverage, and Cashman is good in coverage.
But they are about to get Patrick Onwuasor from injured reserve, and he’s considered a very good coverage linebacker. Once he’s activated, expect him to play a lot . . .
Two things that will get you on the hot seat as a coach in the NFL, getting blown out a lot, and not making good adjustments in the game. The Jets have been outscored by 118 points this year, and last week, they came out decently on offense, getting off to a 10-0 lead, but then Buffalo made defensive adjustments, and the Jets didn’t score another point. The Jets didn’t make the proper adjustments to adjust to Buffalo’s adjustments . . .
No way!
I heard Frank Isola, whom a big fan of, being interviewed on Fox Sports Radio, and the host asked him about Trevor Lawrence possible going back to school and avoiding the Jets.
Isola thinks Lawrence will come out, and pointed out that the Jets will likely have a new coach and then he said:
“There is a chance the GM won’t be there,” said Isola.
The GM isn’t going anywhere.
Not only is he very competent, but he’s got five years left on his contract for $3 million-a-year.
People who think he’s somehow part of the problem are misguided.
The guy knows what he’s doing, and one of the best things Adam Gase did was help getting this guy in the building.
And it looks like his first draft could be pretty good.
Mekhi Becton looks terrific, Denzel Mims had a strong debut last week, La’mical Perine is starting to flash (needs work on his blocking), Ashtyn Davis is going to start this week, Cam Clark will eventually start. This draft could be pretty good.
The Jamal Adams trade was smart. They got two first round picks for a box safety, and Seattle’s defense has been awful.
The Jets have a lot of issues right now. Douglas isn’t one of them.
