Mark Sanchez-David Garrard-Greg McElroy.
May the best man win.
John Idzik is bringing a level of competition to Jets camp we haven’t seen in a while.
He truly believes in the concept.
Remember, Idzik was with an organization last year, the Seattle Seahawks, that signed free agent QB Matt Flynn, in March, to a three-year deal worth $19.5 million, with $10 million guaranteed.
Flynn was brought in to compete with Tavaris Jackson for the starting quarterback job.
Then the team drafted Wisconsin’s Russell Wilson in the third round, and he beat out both of them in training camp.
So that is the culture Idzik is coming from.
Now he’s just go to convince his coaches to embrace that mindset.
The head coach was described by Trevor Pryce of being “loyal to the point of defiance,” and an assistant coach today gave one QB a “leg-up,” in the competition.
No, no, no.
That isn’t what competition is all about.
Competition isn’t about loyalty, defiance, and somebody coming off an poor season having a “leg-up.”
Competition is about letting the three men battle it out, and may the best man win.
End of story.
