Cleveland, Ohio – The Jets are 3-2. So much for the worst roster in ten year. Here are some thoughts from Cleveland . . .
Al Groh used to say, “I don’t want the most talent, I want the most team.”
The Jets don’t have the most talent, but they have very good chemistry.
The Steelers certainly have more talent than the Jets, but they are a house-divided – a lol of infighting and you can see what it’s doing to them on the field.
The Jets’ football culture is so much better than last year, and it shows.
“It’s a unified group in [our locker room],” Josh McCown said after the Jets win over Cleveland. “There is power in that and we can do a lot when we are together. I think that’s the key. When you and the prognosticators make their picks and assumptions about any team, not just us, what you cannot always tell is the chemistry. We have really good chemistry and this is a special group.”
Look at Pittsburgh compared to the Jets . . .
The Jets’ run defense continues to be a problem. The Browns ran for 140 yards and 4.2 yards a carry. Compare that to the Jets, who ran who ran 18 times for 34 yards and a 1.9 yard average.
Both Mo Wilkerson and Leonard Williams each finished with two tackles each, so it should come as no surprise that so many runs got to the second level.
I think they are both more injured than the Jets are letting us know. They both don’t seem to be their normal selves right now.
If I were the Jets, I’d get Steve McLendon on the field more.
They are playing a lot of sets with two defensive linemen – Wilkerson and Williams – and it’s just not working out that well against the run.
They better make some changes because if New England runs like this, Brady will destroy them with play-action, unlike the last two teams due to quarterback issues . . .
The difference between these two teams today is simple – Josh McCown.
I’m not saying he’s great, but the way he managed the game today, finishing 23-30 for 194 yards with a 101.2 QB rating and two touchdowns was the difference in the game.
The Browns used to have him, and the Jets have him now.
The way they played today they probably wish they still had him.
He was the difference.
Not that he’s great, but he was the tie-breaker in this close game where they Browns were killed by red zone turnovers by young quarterbacks.
These two rosters are pretty close talent-wise. McCown was the tie-breaker . . .
I always hear people saying the Jets should trade Matt Forte.
First off, I don’t think there is a market for him at his age and with his contract.
But secondly, the Jets need him.
Running backs are always getting hurt.
So as fast as you can say, “Get rid of him,” they need him again. Bilal Powell got hurt today. He suffered a calf injury. Those usually aren’t one-week injuries.
I saw Forte getting treatment in the team’s trainer’s room after the game in Cleveland, a game he didn’t play in.
He’s trying really hard to get back this week.
And it looks like the Jets will need him.
