Morris County – It’s time for a heaping helping of Jets Website Whispers from Jets Country. We have a few different things to get into, so let’s get started . . .
The Jets promoted RB Brandon Wilds from their practice squad today.
In preparation for my SiriusXM NFL Radio Show late in the preseason, I was trying to watch as many game as possible to get some good info, and I watched an Atlanta Falcons preseason game against Cleveland.
Wilds looked very good, including a 32-yard TD run.
I actually talked about him on the show that followed about how good he was looking.
The undrafted rookie out of South Carolina looked like a lock to make the Falcons, but then he suffered an LCL knee sprain late in the summer and was given an injury settlement. That is a non-surgical injury.
Jets player personnel director Brian Heimerdinger did a nice of being cognizant of Wilds work in Atlanta before the injury, and then jumping on him when he got healthy.
Wilds was a draftable talent, but fell through the cracks do to some injury issues in college. It also didn’t help that the Gamecocks were terrible his senior year. But he’s a nice looking running back at 6-1, 220-pounds; he’s pretty athletic and breaks tackles. The Jets could use another runner who breaks a lot of tackles, ala Chris Ivory . . .
Todd Bowles asked a lot of questions about Bryce Petty today, and I think this answer is the most important, as the Petty prepares for his second start.
“We will see if he calms down and the game has slowed down for him,” Bowles said.
In his first start, and the second half of the Indianapolis game, he was a little too wound up leading to overthrows and some bad decisions.
He’s got to play a little less amped.
It will be interesting to see if he’s able to do this. We will find out down the stretch.
He certainly has the arm to make all the throws . . .
Todd Bowles said something today that made me laugh. I tried to keep it down, but I found what he said funny.
Brian Costello interviewed Darrelle Revis last week and the cornerback told him one reason he doesn’t jam receivers at the line is because of the wrist injury he had last year.
Bowles said, “I haven’t gotten any indication from treatment or anything else that it was (injured). But if it’s sore, he’s keeping it to himself. If he’s told you guys, I haven’t heard anything.”
This is comical to me. Not in relation to Bowles, but in terms of Revis.
So he’s telling reporters his wrist is hurting him so he can’t play press coverage, but he has never told his coach. That is so ridiculous, I don’t know what to say.
I think Bowles is getting a little tired of all the excuses the corner is making, and there have been many.
Check out his answer when asked a follow-up question about the wrist.
“If that’s what he said, I’m sure his wrist may be bothering him,” Bowles said. “We’ll try to use the other one and put him in position where he can use his off-hand.”
To me, that was the coach saying, “Whatever.”
