Florham Park – It’s time for a heaping helping of Jets Whispers from One Jets Drive in bucolic Florham Park, New Jersey . . .
Some people played the race card on draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki because of his scathing scouting reports on RG III, Cam Newton and Geno Smith.
I know Nawrocki. He’s not a racist.
And you know what, if you go back and look at his reports, most of what he has said turned out to be true about all three quarterbacks.
It has nothing to do with race.
It has to do with scouting . . .
I asked Rex today about the proliferation of off-sides penalties against Willie Colon.
He said he doesn’t know the reason why, but it troubled him that too many are in the red zone.
I think the reason he jumps so much is that after so many injuries, so many surgeries, he’s lost a little quickness, so he’s trying to get off the ball as fast as possible, to help compensate.
We have seen this before with older offensive linemen . . .
I am getting so tired of the trap question epidemic around here.
The Jets haven’t turned the ball over in the last two games.
A reporter asked Rex Ryan the reason for this.
Total trap question.
The answer is simple, and we all know that – it’s because they switched from a young, developing QB to a veteran QB.
Good for Rex, he didn’t fall for it.
He’s gotten very good at sensing these trap questions, and avoiding them.
Perhaps the reporter was looking for Rex to throw Geno under the bus.
He didn’t do it, and he’s not going to do it.
Man, do I hate trap questions, and so do the players and coaches.
Ask Calvin Pace – he’ll tell you all about this . . .
This team is pretty amazing to me in one regard – the energy and attitude of this locker room is more like an 8-2 team than a 2-8 team.
Watching the practice today, guys were flying around, making plays. The camaraderie of this group is outstanding.
“The energy level was high,” Mike Vick said about today’s practice. “Everybody was enthused and feeling good about where we can go.”
The Jets aren’t in a good place right now with their awful record.
But the morale is outstanding.
I’m not in the prediction business, but I see a lot of games being won by this club over the last six games. Winning four of six, or five of six wouldn’t shock me.
The bottom line is John Idzik messed up with his quarterback agenda.
There is nothing they can do about that now.
I see a lot of quality performances by this team down the stretch . . .
Darrin Walls (quad) did some back-peddling today, something he couldn’t do last week.
He still not sure he’s going to play, but he’s feeling more confident.
It’s interesting about this quad injury, which happened in the first Buffalo game, Walls and the trainers aren’t sure how it happened.
They went back and looked a tape, and couldn’t pinpoint it.
He got hit in the quad, but their not sure when . . .
