Miami Gardens – Time for a heaping helping of Jets Website Whispers from Hard Rock Stadium in South Florida where the Jets lost a tough one to the Dolphins . . .
Leonard Williams had a tremendous game.
You might see just four tackles on the stat sheet, but man is that misleading.
So often he would blow up a run, and this would allow others to make the stop.
And this Dolphins offensive line is outstanding. It might be the best in football.
The left side of their line is unreal – Brandon Albert and Laremy Tunsil. And then you have a first round center (Mike Pouncey) and a first round right tackle Ju’wuan James.
And Williams was constantly blasting into the backfield.
He’s going to be a superstar . . .
Josh Martin finally got a chance to rush the quarterback at outside linebacker, and he got sack, but unfortunately for the Columbia graduate, he got concussed on the play.
He should have been playing a lot earlier in the year. He’s 6-3, 250 and runs under 4.6. Why he wasn’t getting any playing time is a mystery.
But now you have to wonder about his future?
The reason Kansas City released him with an injury settlement last year was due to a concussion, and now he has another one.
Will the erudite Columbia grad so, “I don’t want to mess with the brain anymore?”
However, from a football standpoint, this guy should be playing a lot . . .
Whoever thinks it’s a good idea for Mike Catapano to evey play in coverage needs to be called into the GM’s office.
This is ridiculous.
It’s not in his wheelhouse. His hips are too stiff. He’s just not a coverage athlete. I don’t have a problem with him playing moving forward (rushing the passer, playing the run), but not in space. That is crazy.
In the second quarter, he got beat down the right sideline for a gain of 19 by running back Damien Williams to the 9. The Dolphins scored a couple of plays later.
I could not believe my eyes. How on earth could any coach think that Catapano can run with a running back in coverage?
They need to pull the plug on this.
Know your players strengths . . .
It’s really surprising that the Jets lost this game due to a kickoff return by the Dolphins #2 KO returner – Kenyan Drake. That’s crazy. I’m not being dismissive of Drake as a player. He was very good at Alabama, but the Jets essentially were kicking away from speedster Jakeem Grant, so they kicked to Drake, and he took it 96-yards. That’s a killer.
One small problem for the Jets was the injury to Martin, who might be their best special team’s cover guy. That certainly didn’t help . . .
Mo Wilkerson is an enigma. Clearly a transcendent talent, but he’s been pretty inconsistent this year, as most of you know, he sat out the first quarter today. It was a coaches decision. Clearly he broke a team rule along with Sheldon Richardson, who also sat out the first quarter.
And then after the game, Wilkerson refused to talk to the media.
You pay a guy $17 million a year, he breaks the bank; he should be a model player for you – obey team rules and stand in front of your locker like Derek Jeter and address the media.
Something is amiss here.
