Can’t wait for real football to start, so we can cut back on so much of the meaningless stuff we get bombarded with . . .
on a daily basis the few months leading up to training camp.
Every time I turn around I see some headline posing a question that the article is pretending to have answer to.
And they don’t have the foggiest idea. They don’t have the ability to see the future.
You reach a point by July you just want to scream. Enough already, None of this nonsense matters. Let’s get to some real football and stop the Kabuki theatre.
Saw one today – “Who will win the Jets punt and kick return jobs?”
They don’t know. So why are they posing the question in the link? If you click on the link, you aren’t going to find out the answer.
Headline question – “Are these Jets worse than 2016 Browns?
This was probably a link that a lot of people clicked on. Mission accomplished.
But who knows?
And more importantly, who cares?
What does this have to do with anything that matters?
Another really important storyline this week – Darron Lee changed his number from 50 to 58.
Stop the presses.
His number doesn’t matter – Lee producing more than he did last year matters. He didn’t play very well as a rookie.
“I thought he played well last year,” Todd Bowles said on May 30. “He gave up a couple of plays. I don’t think he struggled. I thought he played well as a rookie.”
I’m sorry, I can’t be a stenographer and just write down what the coach says and go with it.
Lee didn’t play well last year.
I’m obviously not writing him off. He’s young, and has time to take his game to another level.
Lee played in 13 games and started nine, and was credited with three defensed passes.
For a guy brought in to improve the Jets’ linebacker coverage, that isn’t enough production. He needs to get his hands on a lot more footballs in coverage, and pick off some, in 2017.
To give you a comparison, Atlanta Falcons rookie linebacker Deion Jones had 11 defensed passes last year.
So my focus isn’t on Lee’s uniform number, but the number of defensed passes and interceptions in 2017.
Back the headlines linking to non-answers.
Headline on a national website – “Panthers, Titans among teams whose rookie classes will thrive.”
I like the writer. He has no clue if this is going to happen.
Headline on a national website – “Marcus Mariota among young quarterbacks poised to break out.”
We have no idea if that is going to happen.
Headline on a national website – “Four offseason moves that will reshape the AFC.”
They have no idea if this is the case.
Enough already.
None of you know if these things are going to happen.
Stop acting like you do.
I’m glad football is upon us, so we can start getting legitimate answers in training camp, preseason games and regular season games.
And people can put this Nostradamus stuff on the shelf.
