Florham Park – A lot of questions about what changes might happen after this season.
One of the biggest questions is regarding the future of GM Mike Tannenbaum.
He is signed for two more years.
I don’t think Woody Johnson has made up his mind yet on Tannenbaum’s future, but one source close to the Jets has thrown out one scenario to me on more than one occasion.
What the source said was it possible that Tannenbaum could be re-assigned to another position, much like Terry Bradway.
Tannenbaum could be switched to a different front office spot. This way, Woody Johnson wouldn’t have to eat the contract, and would get some bang for his buck.
Tannenbaum has a wife and kids, and lives in Basking Ridge. I’m sure he would prefer to stay here – it’s a great area.
I’m not saying this is going to happen, but it is an interesting scenario from a source . . .
Manish Mehta wrote today, “The Daily News has learned that Tebow, who captivated the NFL last season with his miracle playoff run in Denver, will request to be traded or released after the season assuming that McElroy starts the final two games.”
This begs the question – who gave him this?
It’s hard to believe it came from the Tebow camp. A few weeks ago, Mehta wrote a hatchet job on the Tebow, quoting unnamed Jets players and officials, questioning the quarterback’s ability.
So why would agent Jimmy Sexton, Tebow or anybody around the quarterback help Mehta? That would make little sense. He destroyed the player a few weeks ago.
And why would anybody at One Jets Drive want this kind of distraction with two weeks left?
Tebow was asked today if he requested a trade or release.
“I have not,” Tebow said. “We’ll talk about that after the season though.
It’s hard to figure where Mehta got this.
One prominent beat writer theorized that Mehta is speculating here, figuring Tebow is frustrated, and will want out after the year.
If he’s right, he looks great, if he’s wrong, most people won’t even remember what he reported . . .
You get the sense that some people around the Jets have had it up to here with the media’s horrendous treatment of his team, and it’s horrendous. Respect has gone by the wayside.
One of the guys from the training room turned to an ops guy today and said, “These people are a bunch of “[expletive]-bags.” . . .
Check out the picture above. That was the media interviewing Tebow at his locker today. The amount of media today in Florham Park was astonishing.
This is a 6-8 football team. You would have thought it was Media Day at the Super Bowl.
This team is such a lightning rod – win or lose, they are always a big story . . .
To me, Tony Sparano doesn’t seem happy here.
The culture isn’t what he’s used to (being a no-nonsense Bill Parcells’ guy) with all the leaks, distractions and such. Also, he’s taking a lot of criticism, and we hear he’s not thrilled with that.
If Sparano does decide to leave after this year, on his own, or by force, you know darn well Rex Ryan would look to bring in his buddy Cam Cameron, who just got unfairly dumped in Baltimore.
Norv Turner would probably be another strong candidate.
