The Jets’ defense had a rough season last year.
The issues were related to both the scheme and personnel issues.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, who made his bones as a coach on defense, is taking over the defensive play-calling to help fix the schematic issues.
But just as important, Glenn and Jets GM Darren Mougey were focused like lasers on improving their defensive talent this off-season, and it’s possible Gang Green could have 8-9 new starters on that side of the ball in 2026.
One of the players added this off-season is linebacker Demario Davis, back for his third stint with the Jets, and he sees a very talented defense around him, with the myriad additions via free agency, trades, and the draft.
“I’m excited about the guys they brought together, between ‘Moug’ and Aaron Glenn,” Davis said. “It’s talented with guys that are proven and guys who have the potential to grow.”
Proven talent was added with guys like Davis, defensive tackle David Onyemata, and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, and talent with a lot of potential was added in the draft, with players like edge-rusher David Bailey and cornerback D’Angelo Ponds.
“You need a talented roster to compete in this league,” Davis said. “That gives you a shot, and then it comes down to execution and staying healthy.”
There is no doubt, at least on paper, that the Jets’ defensive roster is significantly more talented than last season.
