Former Jets coach Rex Ryan put it perfectly.
While appearing on ESPN Radio New York on Monday, he was asked what advice he would give to Aaron Glenn, the coach of the 2-5 Jets.
The status quo is not going to cut it.
“Don’t think you’re going to go out there and lay your jockstraps out there, and it’s going to change,” Ryan said. “You gotta fix what’s happening right now. Everything, hammer every detail there is, and give your young men an opportunity to win the game. That’s what you do; you take it on as your responsibility as a coach,” Ryan said. For instance, the Jets’ run defense is flat-out broken. The Jets clearly need to make some scheme and lineup changes.
There is an old saying about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
As the late college coach Mike Leach used to say, “You are either coaching it or allowing it to happen.”
